Two main strategies for making rich media accessible for generations exist: “Emulation” and “Migration”. This sub-project will cover emulation. While migration changes the media asset to be played on new software / hardware, emulation leaves the media asset unchanged and uses an emulator on new software / hardware to play the media asset.

The project will work with virtual machines running together on one physical server. The server will be running a different operating system and environment than the assets. The original assets and its operating environment will be run as a virtual machine under a new operating system. The original assets run various MS Windows and Linux versions.

In this subproject we have worked with emulation on VW-Ware and Emulation using Microsofts Hyper-V
